☀️ Stop the Summer Slide Before It Starts

As summer begins, there's encouraging news from Washington, DC.
On June 8, Senators Bill Cassidy (R-LA) and Maggie Hassan (D-NH) introduced the READ Act, a bipartisan bill designed to strengthen evidence-based reading instruction nationwide. The legislation would modernize federal literacy funding and expand support for early dyslexia screening and intervention. It marks another important step toward aligning literacy policy with the Science of Reading.
It’s summer — and we must talk about the risk of the summer academic slide — and prevent it. On average, students lose 2.5 months of learning over the summer, and start the new school year behind.
Research shows that small literacy habits like reading, listening to stories, visiting the library, and talking about books can make a meaningful difference. That's why this month's newsletter is dedicated to helping you stop the summer slide with practical tips, free resources, and fun literacy activities for the whole family. 📚☀️
